I wish there were a way to share content between devices

mobile-tablet-phone-people-600x422

How many times have you emailed content from your desktop to yourself, in order to access it on your cell phone?

Don’t you wish there was an app that could seamlessly, with a single click, push content from your desktop to your tablet or mobile device? (or the other way around).

And while we’re wishing, how about sending notifications from your mobile device, directly to your desktop.  And what if (still wishing here) this app would actually allow you to view all our phone notifications directly from your desktop.

Or, say, for example, while sitting at your office desktop you browsed upon:

  • an article you wanted to send to someone via whatsapp
  • directions to somewhere you need to open on your phone
  • something of interest you want to read later on your way home….

…well, your wish is Pushbullet‘s command (or is it the other way around?).

Pushbullet does all that and more.

After installing the app on Chrome, we could simply highlight and right-click any content we wanted pushed, and bam!- there it was. We found the app to be lightning fast, instantly pushing the content with zero time lag (or is the other way around- zero lag time…?).

Another killer feature- register someone else’s device (wife, friend) and you can instantly push content to their device with one click!

There are plenty other features for the advanced user- check them out here at Getting the most out of Pushbullet.

All in all, we found Pushbullet to be a silver bullet.

We are curious though, what do you use to share content seamlessly between devices?

  2. Get the app on your phone

How to prevent your email from being hacked

password-blog

I rely heavily on my email account being safe and secure. If someone got access to my account it would be like having a stranger in my bedroom. So, I sleep with my password under my pillow and take all other reasonable precautions.

Fortunately, for us Google Apps users, there’s a simple fix that will insure your email is safe and secure, even if someone grabbed the password from under the pillow.

Watch the video below and learn how to sleep better at night:

Easy & free conferencing

Recently, I had to meet online with a small team to review some changes to a website we are launching (true story). We needed the host to share his screen and we needed audio. Simple, right? It’s 2013 after all.

On previous calls we had vacillated between Skype and Google Hangouts with no luck- both failing to provide seamless video and audio support- so this time we tried Teamviewer. However, Teamviewer also failed us as a solution. We finally settled on screen sharing with Teamviewer and audio support via a free teleconference service.

So I went searching for a better solution and found one: The #1 Cloud Video Conferencing Experience called Zoom.us.

Zoom.us really does excel when it comes to quality, features and pricing.

A free account offers many features like; Up to 25 participants per meeting, MP4 recording and playback, Google and Facebook IM, Instant or scheduled meetings, iPad/iPhone screen sharing and a bunch more! Hosting and joining meetings can be done with a couple of clicks. The video and audio quality are great and you can’t get cheaper than free.

So, we recommend you check out Zoom.us before your next audio-video-global-screen-sharing- conference.

Finally, If you can recommend other conferencing/meeting tools (like join.me) please comment below, we’d love to hear about your experiences.

Takeaway5

  1. Get frustrated with all the hype about Skype, Google Hangouts and other tools.
  2. Visit zoom.us and sign up for a free account.
  3. Host (or join) meetings easily, from your computer or mobile devise.
  4. Enjoy your new found ease of communication.
  5. That’s 5.

Put the internet to work for you

That’s what ifttt (try say that backwards, 100 times) promises to do for you. ifttt allows you to create multiple If This Then That scenarios. For example if I get an email from my favorite customer with the subject line: I want to order 10,000 of those new widgets then send me an sms (example below).

With 64 channels (each Channel has its own Triggers and Actions) and counting, the possibilities are vast. Some definitions to help you get started:

TriggersThe this part of a Recipe is a Trigger. Some example Triggers are “The weather in Texas is below 40 today” or “My largest customer checked in on Foursquare.”

ActionsThe that part of a Recipe is an Action. Some example Actions are “send me a text message” or “Make an entry on Google Docs.”

IngredientsPieces of data from a Trigger are called Ingredients. For example, the Ingredients of an Email Trigger could be: subject, body, attachment, received date, and the sender’s address.

Put all that together and you have a delicious ifttt recipe.

Takeaway5

  1. Sign up for ifttt for free.
  2. Choose the channels (Facebook, sms, gmail etc) you want to activate.
  3. Create a recipe and wait for the trigger.
  4. Search other peoples recipes for ideas.
  5. Refer your friends.

I wonder if my email was even opened?

131003-businessman-pressing-email-lg

Ignorance is bliss.

Not knowing whether that all important, life altering, mind blowing email that you just sent to the CEO with your new creative was read, deleted or lost in the mail, gives you a sense of uncertain certainty.

But what if there were an App that could tell you if the email was opened? What if that App could tell you what time it was opened, the ip address it was opened from, whether any links in the email were clicked and update you every time it was opened again?

Rightinbox does all that and more!

Email tracking

Rightinbox is the postal delivery receipt for email. It kills the guess work- now you’ll know for sure that the CEO who you proposed your million dollar idea to, opened the email, clicked the link and is going to give you a big fat bonus.

Next up; an App that will tell you what your boss is thinking when your email is opened….

Takeaway5

  • Click here to install Rightinbox
  • Once installed, click Track when you send an email.
  • Always be in the know about when/if your emails are opened and clicked.
  • Feel a little like the NSA.
  • That’s it.
